The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has announced the opening of 12 new resort islands across various atolls before the end of 2026. The new properties range from budget-friendly guesthouses on local islands to ultra-luxury overwater villa resorts. Key openings include a 120-villa resort in Raa Atoll, a boutique eco-resort in Laamu Atoll and a new 5-star property in the sought-after North Malé Atoll. Ibrahim Nasir International Airport in Malé is also undergoing expansion with a new international terminal expected to be operational by November 2026, increasing capacity to 7.5 million passengers annually. Travel packages from Colombo to Maldives start from LKR 85,000 per person return.
